NYSHS is calling on members to submit to be HOD Delegates and Alternates
The annual meeting of the House of Delegates of the National Society for
Histotechnology will convene on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in Providence,
R.I.

Constituent Societies may seat the President of the society or Presidential
alternate, and one (1) delegate or alternate for each fifty (50) NSH members in
that state. For the 2013 HOD, NYS has 4 open seats.

The requirements to serve as a delegate are: all individuals selected as
delegates or alternates must be current active NSH members in good standing for
at least one (1) year (this is interpreted as a calendar year) prior to the
meeting of the House of Delegates in order to be eligible to serve in the House.

The Natural Science Department and the Histotechnology Program is actively seeking a part-time adjunct for the role of  Educational Coordinator for the Histotechnology Program.

Job Description:

This new position will work with the Histotechnician Program Director to maintain and enhance the academic and technical training of histotechnology students. Duties may include, but not be limited to, recruitment of students and new affiliate sites for internships; clinical coordination and site visits; classroom and laboratory teaching; collating and assessing data; and evaluating program effectiveness.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in Histotechnology required; master’s degree preferred. The successful candidate will be a histotechnology professional who is certified by a national certifying agency. Excellent public relations, organization, decision making and creative skills are required. The candidate will have knowledge of educational methods and current accreditation and certification procedures.

Additional Information:

Half-time, 11-month position to serve as the Education Coordinator for the Histotechnician A.A.S. program; begins August 2013. This position offers full New York State benefits which are among the most comprehensive in the country. Salary Range: $20,000 – $21,000. SUNY Cobleskill is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community for our students and employees. To achieve that goal, we conduct background investigations for all final candidates being considered for employment. Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful completion of the background check.

The Maine Society for Histotechnology will be holding a one day meeting on Saturday, June 8th at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, ME.  Please put this on your calendars and share with your members!  I will be sending along additional info as planning gets underway.  Bar Harbor in June is a great place to be and perfect for a weekend getaway!  Along with getting to see an amazing research facility like the Jackson Laboratory, there is Acadia National Park, tons of stores and shopping, great seafood, hiking, biking, kayaking, golf..you name it!

NEW! Meeting attendees are responsible for tracking their session attendance and reporting it directly to NSH for contact hour credit. Individual State Societies WILL NOT BE reporting CEU for members.

Session attendance can be recorded immediately after the session ends through NSH’s online Contact Hour Portal: ce.nsh.org (instructions are located below). Attendees must sign in on the State Meeting Roster at check in and complete course evaluations to claim credit through the NSH Contact Hour Portal.

 

Instructions on how to submit  your hours to the NSH Contact Hour Portal
1. Login to NSH Contact Hour Portal – ce.nsh.org (do not use www prior to the web address)
a. First Time to the Site? – complete the “Not Yet Registered” form to create your contact hour portal user account. Once you have created a user account you will be asked to complete the user profile form (your name, address etc). To complete the profile and access hours from previous events you will need your NSH Customer ID number in the first step. If you don’t know your Customer ID number contact NSH at histo@nsh.org.
2. Once you are logged in select “Session Tracker” from the top navigation
3. Add your Contact Hours for an event
a. Step 1: Year: Select the year in which the event was held.
b. Step 2: Event Title: All events approved in a specific year for contact hours by NSH are available to you to in this drop down list. Select the name of the event you attended. You will find your event name listed on the front side of this contact hour tracking sheet
c. Step 3: Session Title: Select a workshop you attended – each workshop needs to be added individually. The number of contact hours awarded for this session is preset and cannot be edited.
d. Step 4: Add: Click on Add and your workshop will appear in your session log listed below.
4. Print your contact hour certificate
a. Click on the box next to each session you would like to appear on your certificate.
b. Make sure you click all of the sessions from one event if you want them to appear on one certificate.
c. If you want all of your hours for a specific year you will need to click on all of the sessions from that year.
