Charles Churukian Memorial Scholarship

This financial award is presented annually at the Region 1 meeting to a histologist who must demonstrate financial need, involvement in State or Regional or national activities promoting Histotechnology and demonstrate motivation and reason for wanting to attend a meeting.

To apply, the candidate must write a letter detailing how he/she meets the criteria and submit a similar letter from his/her supervisor, pathologist or co-worker. Letters are to be sent to the NSH Region 1 Director

Region 1 Scholarship

This financial award is presented annually at the Region 1 meeting to a histologist or supervisor who must must demonstrate financial need, involvement in State or Regional or national activities promoting Histotechnology and demonstrate motivation and reason for wanting to attend an annual meeting.

To apply, the candidate must write a letter detailing how he/she meets the criteria and submit a similar letter from his/her supervisor, pathologist or co-worker. Letters are to be sent to the NSH Region 1 Director.

Region 1 Histotech of the Year Award (HOTY)

This prestigious award is given annually to the Histotechnologist in recognition of an individual who has shown the qualities of dedication and service to the Histotechnology profession within their state or within the region.  Membership in their State Society or NSH is required.

To apply, the individual nominating the candidate must write a letter detailing how he/she meets the criteria and have a similar letter submitted from his/her supervisor, pathologist or co-worker.

Deadline for nominations is March 1. All nominations will be reviewed by two members of the NSH Board of Director’s who will select the winner. The Award is presented at the Region 1 Symposium.

After receipt of all candidate forms for the region 1 scholarship and Charles Churkian Memorial award, the recipient will be determined by the Selection Committee  consisting of two Region 1 state Presidents and the NSH Region 1 Director. All applicants will be notified 2 weeks before the meeting date. Expenses for the award must be submitted to the Region 1 Director within 30 days after the meeting and are given on a reimbursement basis, EXCEPT for the hotel expense which will be paid for directly by the Symposium planning committee.

The Annual Region 1 Educational Scholarships provide recipients with:

  • Two nights lodging
  • Travel expenses
  • Paid General registration for 2 days
  • Two paid ½ day workshops
  • The scholarship does not cover food expenses
  • Region 1 state membership is required but NSH Membership is not
